FACILITIES
The laboratory space is located at the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine, 450 Technology Drive Suite 300, University of Pittsburgh and within the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Approximately 73,000 square feet of office, laboratory and conference room space is dedicated to the Institute between two buildings. The Bridgeside Point II building, where the PI’s laboratory is located, houses over 33,000 square feet of McGowan labs, offices and conference rooms that focus on tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. The open floor plan of Bridgeside Point II was specifically designed to facilitate collaboration and aid with intellectual exchange.
The Cardiac Research Laboratory fully supports tissue processing and cell culture, microscopy, molecular biology and biochemistry. Special resources include BSL-II biosafety cabinets for human tissue culture, hypoxic chambers, vascular bioreactor systems, an inverted fluorescent microscope, live-cell stage-top incubation chamber, digital imaging cameras (monochromatic and color), and imaging software. Shared common resources in adjacent laboratory spaces of the McGowan labs including a 4-channel wire myograph (DMT); perfusion myograph (DMT); surgical microscope (ISIS); autoclave, glass washers, drying oven, nanopure water system and ice machine. Special resources within the laboratory space are BSL-IIA biosafety cabinets for human tissue culture and work with viral vectors, an inverted fluorescent microscope, live-cell stage-top incubation chamber, digital imaging cameras (monochromatic and color) and imaging software, a custom cell seeding device and vascular graft bioreactors. Specific equipment in the laboratory include:
