Student Training Opportunities

Student-Interest-Groups-regenerative-medicineAs pioneers in the field of regenerative medicine, McGowan Institute faculty and staff are both obligated and delighted to contribute to the growth of the field by participating in the career development of young scientists. The McGowan Institute and its partners provide the country’s largest breadth of training programs in regenerative medicine – for undergraduate students through post-doctoral trainees– sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). In addition, the local seminar series invites presenters from institutions around the world to discuss their research with faculty and trainees.

The training programs that are available are:

The principal academic partners are the Department of Bioengineering and Schools of Health Sciences.

Pathology Summer Undergraduate Research Program

  • The Summer Undergraduate Research Program is designed for students seriously considering graduate school or a career in biomedical research
  • The goal of this program is to provide students the opportunity for a hands-on research experience.
  • Each student will conduct an independent research project with the guidance from a faculty member.
  • At the end of the ten-week program, the student will present his/her research to members of the department at a Research Presentation Day.
  • The program is sponsored and administered by the Cellular and Molecular Pathology Graduate Program at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and is administered by the Interdisciplinary Biomedical Graduate Program.
