Congratulations to Prof. Durba Pal of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar, on winning the Wellcome Trust India Alliance Fellowship Award in December 2023! Formerly, a postdoc trained with Prof. Chandan K Sen, Prof. Pal is a Biomedical Engineering Faculty member at IIT Ropar, won the intermediate fellowship award for $450,000 for a 5-year period. Pitt McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine is her external sponsor. Prof. Pal will spend parts of 3 years (of those 5 years from 2025-2027) working in Pitt McGowan laboratories on her collaborative research in “Adipose Derived Myeloid Lineage in the Pathophysiology of Type 2 DM.”
Quote from Dr. Chandan K. Sen, Director, Pitt McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine
I congratulate Durba and her team for being awarded the Wellcome Trust India Alliance Award. We look forward to high quality collaborative research and excellent scientific productivity. PittMcGowan welcomes Prof. Pal and her team.
Quote from Prof. Durba Pal on identifying Dr. Chandan K. Sen as a mentor for this award.
I have identified Prof. Chandan K Sen as my mentor for the application because he is a renowned scientist in the field of regenerative medicine and has an extensive record of training postdoc fellows, including me. He has been working in adaptive tissue reprogramming for many years. He has published articles in international peer-reviewed journals, including Nature Nanotechnology, Nature Protocol, Nature Communication, Molecular Therapy, and J of Clinical Investigation. He has a highly equipped laboratory with a transgenic mice facility and an omic study facility, which will help carry out some of the work related to the proposed research study. Therefore, I expect to get his guidance throughout the fellowship program, which will be helpful to sustain and build a strong collaboration even after the fellowship is completed and help me reach my scientific goals as an independent research investigator shortly.
