Shomita S. Steiner, PhD, MSc

Dr. Shomita S. Steiner serves as the Executive Director of Scientific Operations at the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine and holds a faculty appointment as Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. She earned her PhD in Microbiology from Miami University, followed by postdoctoral training at the Wadsworth Center and Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY.

Dr. Steiner leads the Institute’s strategic scientific vision and oversees the organization of scientific operations, including communication, engagement, and reporting with federal and non-federal agencies, as well as industry partners. She has over a decade of experience in managing collaborations with intra- and extramural research groups, supporting center funding initiatives, and fostering innovation.

In addition to her operational leadership, Dr. Steiner is active in the broader scientific community. She serves as a peer reviewer for several high-impact journals and is a member of the editorial board for Elsevier’s The Microbe journal. Dr. Steiner also co-chairs the public relations and publications, presentations, and policies committees of the NIH Diabetic Foot Consortium, further demonstrating her commitment to advancing research and public engagement in regenerative medicine.
