Mangesh Kulkarni, MBBS, MTech, PhD

Dr. Mangesh Kulkarni is an Assistant Professor in the Bioengineering Department at the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Kulkarni received his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, Grant Medical College, University of Mumbai, 1996 – 2001.  He then received his MTech in Biomedical Engineering and Science, Indian Institute of Technology, 2004 – 2006.  From 2006 – 2012 he attended the National University of Ireland Galway where he received his PhD in Biomedical Engineering and Science.

Dr. Kulkarni served as a Graduate Research Fellow, The Network of Excellence for Functional Biomaterials, National University of Ireland Galway, Department of Biomedical Engineering, while pursuing his PhD.  He then went on to serve as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences, MR Division, Institute of Cell Engineering.  He also was a Post-Doctoral Scientist, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Department of Biomedical Sciences, Regenerative Medicine Institute from 2015 – 2018.

Currently he is an ad hoc reviewer for several international peer reviewed journals:

  • Macromolecular Chemistry and Physics
  • Tissue Engineering
  • PLOS ONE
  • Scientific Reports

Dr. Kulkarni’s research interests include:

  • Development of biomaterials-based delivery systems
  • Molecular diagnostics and therapeutics (particularly involving non-coding RNA)
  • Cell-free therapeutic strategies like stem cells secretome therapy
  • Tissue engineering and regenerative medicine
