Gayle Gordillo, MD, FACS

Dr. Gayle Gordillo received her undergraduate degree from Stanford University and her medical degree from The Ohio State University. She did her plastic surgery residency and a post-doctoral research fellowship in transplant immunology at The Ohio State University as well. She is a board-certified plastic surgeon who previously served as Professor and Chief of Plastic Surgery at Indiana University, Professor of Plastic Surgery at The Ohio State University and Medical Director of Wound Services at both Indiana University Health and The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. She also served as Director of the burn unit at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and was the founding Director of the Hemangioma and Vascular Malformation Clinic at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Her current position is Professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh and Senior Medical Director of Wound Services and Pressure Injury Prevention and Outcomes for the UPMC health system.

Dr. Gordillo’s research interests are in mechanisms regulating hemangioma growth, biofilm and wound infection, and burn wound imaging. She is the Principal Investigator or co-Principal Investigator of numerous clinical and translational research protocols, which includes industry, NIH, and Department of Defense sponsored projects. She has been continuously funded by NIH as Principal Investigator since 2005 including K08, R01, R43, and U01 awards.

She is currently a standing member of the Arthritis Connective Tissue and Skin study section for NIH. She is a Trustee for the American Association of Plastic Surgeons. She is an alumna of the Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine career development program for women.  She is a past President of the Plastic Surgery Foundation and served 5 years on the Executive Committee for the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Wound Healing Society. She has also served as a consultant to national and international companies working in the wound healing market.
