Title Musculotendinous Tissue Unit Repair and Reinforcement (MTURR) with the Use of Biologic Scaffolds for Patients Suffering from Severe Skeletal Muscle Injury
Description: Existing treatment options for treatment of the loss of large amounts of skeletal muscle tissue (i.e., volumetric muscle loss) with scarring are extremely limited. A functional repair and reinforcement approach with a bioscaffold device would represent a paradigm shift in the treatment of severe traumatic tissue injury. Because the extracellular matrix implant becomes populated with patient cells and blood vessels, the remodeling scaffold and now host tissue deposition can contribute to improved function by augmenting the damaged or missing soft tissue structure. Functional outcome measures are established for each patient, and these are specific for each patient’s type of injury. Morphologic outcome measures include imaging (e.g., MRI) and tissue biopsy. Histology will be performed for the biopsy specimens.
