To the McGowan Institute: 450 Technology Drive

By car from the Oakland Campus – From Forbes Avenue, take S. Bouquet Street 0.25 miles and turn right on to Bates Street. Travel 0.7 miles on Bates Street to the intersection of Bates and Second Avenue. As you approach this intersection, you will pass under a highway overpass, and there is a traffic light at the intersection. Proceed through the intersection (100 feet), and make the next right hand turn onto Technology Drive. The McGowan Institute is in the Bridgeside Point-2 building, the 3rd building on your left (see parking below).

By car … from the East: From the East – Cars traveling from the east via the PA Turnpike (I-76) should take Exit 57 to I-376 West. From I-376 take the PA-885 Exit (3A) toward Glenwood. Turn right onto Bates Street and proceed 0.1 miles on Bates Street to the intersection with Second Ave. As you approach this intersection, you will pass under a highway overpass, and there is a traffic light at the intersection. Proceed through the intersection (100 feet), and make the next right hand turn onto Technology Drive. The McGowan Institute is in the Bridgeside Point-2 building, the 3rd building on your left (see parking below).

… from the West: Cars traveling from the west via the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-76) should take Exit 28 (Cranberry) and follow I-79 South to I-279 South. Follow I-279 to the “Veteran’s Bridge” exit, then exit onto I-579 South. Proceed on I-579 to the “Oakland/Monroeville” exit, and then exit onto the Boulevard of the Allies. After the exit, proceed on the Boulevard of the Allies 0.9 miles to the third traffic light, and turn right on to Bates Street (see directional sign to PA Route 885). Travel 0.3 miles on Bates Street to the intersection of Bates and Second Avenue. As you approach this intersection, you will pass under a highway overpass, and there is a traffic light at the intersection. Proceed through the intersection (100 feet), and make the next right hand turn onto Technology Drive. The McGowan Institute is in the Bridgeside Point-2 building, the 3rd building on your left (see parking below).

… from the North: Take I-79 South to I-279 South. (You exit to the left off I-79.) Follow I-279 until the “Veteran’s Bridge” exit onto I-579 South. Proceed on I-579 to the “Oakland/Monroeville” exit onto the Boulevard of the Allies. Travel 1.2 miles on the Boulevard of the Allies; follow the sign to Forbes Avenue/Oakland; DO NOT take the ramp on the right to I-376 E.

After the Forbes Avenue/Oakland sign, proceed on the Boulevard of the Allies 0.9 miles to the third traffic light, and turn right on to Bates Street (see directional sign to PA Route 885). Travel 0.3 miles on Bates Street to the intersection of Bates and Second Avenue. As you approach this intersection, you will pass under a highway overpass, and there is a traffic light at the intersection. Proceed through the intersection (100 feet), and make the next right hand turn onto Technology Drive. The McGowan Institute is in the Bridgeside Point-2 building, the 3rd building on your left (see parking below).

… from the South, including Pittsburgh International Airport: Follow I-79 North to the exit for I-279 North. Take I-279 through the Fort Pitt Tunnels and across the bridge to the I-376 Monroeville Exit (first exit on the right). Follow I-376 to the “Forbes Avenue-Oakland” exit.

Proceed on the Boulevard of the Allies 0.9 miles to the third traffic light, and turn right on to Bates Street (see directional sign to PA Route 885). Travel 0.3 miles on Bates Street to the intersection of Bates and Second Avenue. As you approach this intersection, you will pass under a highway overpass, and there is a traffic light at the intersection. Proceed through the intersection (100 feet), and make the next right hand turn onto Technology Drive. The McGowan Institute is in the Bridgeside Point-2 building, the 3rd building on your left (see parking below).

Parking at 450 Bridgeside Point: The only parking facility for this building is a parking garage that is located across the street. The garage only accepts credit cards as payment for the parking fees.

Directions to the McGowan Institute Laboratory Building from 450 Technology Drive – Travel on Technology Drive to the Bates Street/Second Avenue Intersection. Turn right on to Second Avenue. Travel 0.1 miles to the first traffic light. Turn right on to Hot Metal Street Bridge. Travel 0.3 miles to the second traffic light. At the light, turn left on to Sidney Street. Make the next right hand turn onto Sarah Street Ext.  Entrance to the building is on the right.  Note: there is no parking at the McGowan Building due to construction.  Please click here for parking guidelines.
