Christopher M. Sciortino, MD, PhD, FACS
Dr. Christopher Sciortino is a cardiothoracic surgeon with Sentara Mid-Atlantic Cardiothoracic Surgeons located in Norfolk, Virginia. Formerly, Dr. Sciortino was an Assistant Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and Surgical Director of the UPMC Advanced Heart Failure Center.
Dr. Sciortino earned his medical degree, as well as a master’s degree in applied anatomy and a doctorate in biophysics and bioengineering, at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. He then completed his residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, where he won numerous clinical and academic awards.
Dr. Sciortino’s clinical practice encompasses all aspects of adult cardiac surgery, including coronary artery bypass, aortic, heart rhythm, and valve surgeries, and minimally invasive surgery. He specializes in surgical treatment for advanced heart failure, including ventricular assist devices (VADs), heart transplant, and ECMO. His research interests include heart failure outcomes after surgery, heart transplantation, and VAD development.
