The McGowan Institute for Regenerative  Medicine is pleased to announce that the European Research Council (ERC) has awared the prestigious Proof of Concept (PoC) grant to the HemoStratum project, headed by Dr. Antonio D’Amore, Group Leader in Cardiovascular Tissue Engineering at the Ri.MED Foundation and faculty at the McGowan Institute.

HemoStratum expands on patented technology that alters vascular biomaterials’ surfaces to promote the proliferation of endothelial cells and blood compatibility. For the more than 10m illion patients who rely on vascular devices annually worldwide, this breakthrough has the potential to signficantly reduce thrombosis-related complications.

The multidisciplinary group includes

  • Antonio D’Amore, Principle Investigator
  • Arianna Adamo, Leading Scientist in Mechanobiology
  • Federica Cosentino, Leading Scientist in Numerical Simulations
  • Pietro Terranova, Leading Scientist in Biofabrication

Project Partners:

Fondazione Ri.MED | University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine | IRCCS ISMETT | University of Palermo

This achievement marks another significant milestone in advancing translational research and cardiovascular innovation. Congratulations to the entire team!
