Join the Pitt research community for a science-packed day with the 2020, 2021, and 2022 winners of the Dickson Prize in Medicine, the most prestigious honor given by the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
In the first-ever Dickson Prize Day, the past three years’ winners will give in-person talks to the University’s research community on campus, each followed by talks from Pitt faculty whose work complements that of Dickson Prize recipients. There will be one panel for each winner. Keynotes from the in-person event will also be livestreamed.
The event will be held in the University Club from 8 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. with a reception to follow. All events will be livestreamed as well. Register now.
About the winners and speakers
2020 Dickson Prize honoree James J. Collins, PhD, will give a talk, “Harnessing Synthetic Biology and Deep Learning to Fight Pathogens.” Dr. Collins is the Termeer Professor of Medical Engineering and Science and professor of biological engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The Dickson Prize honoree for 2021, Cynthia Kenyon, PhD, will give a talk, “The Plasticity of Aging.” Dr. Kenyon is vice president of aging research at Calico Life Sciences, an American Cancer Society professor, and emeritus professor of biochemistry and biophysics at the University of California-San Francisco.
Carolyn Bertozzi, PhD, the Dickson Prize honoree for 2022, will give a talk, “Therapeutic Opportunities in Glycoscience.” Dr. Bertozzi is the Anne T. and Robert M. Bass Professor of Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry at Stanford University.
Pitt faculty panelists include McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine affiliated faculty members Warren Ruder, PhD, and Ora Weisz, PhD, and Drs. Vaughn Cooper, Alexander Deiters, Alison Morris, Toren Finkel, Arjumand Ghazi, Aditi U. Gurkar, Andrey A. Parkhitko, Kay Brummond, Robert Ferris, and JoAnne L. Flynn.
