    Tim D. Oury, MD, PhD

    Dr. Tim Oury currently holds the titles of Professor and Molecular Diagnostics Faculty in the Department of Pathology at the University of Pittsburgh. He is also a member of the Simmons Center for Interstitial Lung Disease, the Center for the Environmental Basis of Human Disease, Co-Director of the Pathologist Investigator Residency-Research Training Program, and a member of the Graduate Faculty at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Oury received his MD at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, and then went on to receive his PhD in Pathology-Biochemistry also at Duke. Dr. Oury is a member of quite a few professional and scientific societies; some include the Society for Free Radical Biology and Medicine (The Oxygen Society), the Pulmonary Pathology Society, and the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.  Dr. Oury was selected as one of “America’s Top Pathologists” in the Guide to America’s Top Physicians published by Consumers’ Research Council of America, Washington, DC, in 2009, and in 2011 he received the Society for Free Radical Biology and Medicine Senior Scientist Award.  Dr. Oury holds 3 patents and 3 patents pending. A list of Dr. Oury’s current research/clinical interests includes:
    • receptor for advanced glycation endproducts (RAGE) in asthma
    • RAGE in innate immunity
    • pulmonary fibrosis
    • asbestos related disease
    • molecular and pulmonary pathology
    Dr. Oury is an Editorial Board Member of PLoS ONE, World Journal of Biological Chemistry, and International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Pathology.  He is a reviewer for numerous publications, including but not limited to, Modern Pathology, the American Journal of Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology, the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Free Radical Biology and Medicine, and the American Journal of Pathology.
