Dr. Thomas Gilbert is the Chief Science Officer, Research & Development, Clinical Research, at ACell, Inc., Columbia, MD. He is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor, Department of Bioengineering, at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD.
Dr. Gilbert received his BS, Materials Science and Engineering, in 1998 from Carnegie Mellon University. In 2006, he received his PhD, Bioengineering, from the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Gilbert’s major research interests include:
Tissue engineering/regenerative medicine applications of extracellular matrix scaffolds
Tissue engineering/regenerative medicine for the upper airway and lungs
Dr. Gilbert is a member of several professional organizations: Tissue Engineering Regenerative Medicine International Society, American Thoracic Society, American Society of Matrix Biology, and the Society for Biomaterials. He received in 2016 and Innovator Award from the University of Pittsburgh. He is the holder of 4 patents.
