    Tatum V. Tarin, MD

    Dr. Tatum Tarin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Urology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and the Director of Urologic Oncology at UPMC Mercy. Dr. Tarin is also the Associate Director of Clinical Affairs in the Center for Medical Innovation in the Swanson School of Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. Prior to this he was a Clinical Instructor and Chief Fellow at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Dr. Tarin earned his BS at Revelle College, University of California, San Diego. He then achieved his MD at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He did an internship and residency in surgery as well as a residency in urology at Stanford University Medical Center, where he became chief resident in urology. Dr. Tarin is a member of the Society of Urology Oncology, the Endourological Society, the American Urologic Association, and the Thai Physicians Association of America. He currently has six patents pending. He has participated in grants to study “Dynamic Urethral Slings” as well as “Pathology Fundamentals for Urology Residents” and most recently “Effect of Preoperative High Arginine Protein Supplementation on Serum Nutritional Parameters for Patients Undergoing Cystectomy: A Pilot Study.” In 2010, Dr. Tarin received the American Urological Association Penis/Testis/Urethra: Benign & Malignant Disease III Best Poster of the Session, “Is Surveillance for Stage I Seminoma Truly a Low Risk Option? Estimating Imaging Related Radiation Exposure and the Risk of Secondary Malignancy.” View a list of Dr. Tarin’s publications here.
