    Pablo Sanchez, MD, PhD, FACS

    Dr. Pablo Sanchez is an Associate Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery; Vice Chairman, Benign Lung Diseases; Chief, Division of Lung Transplant and Lung Failure; Surgical Director, Lung Transplantation and ECMO; Director, Lung Transplant Research; and, Director, Ex Vivo Lung Perfusion (EVLP) Program all within the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh.  Dr. Sanchez received his MD in Medicine at the Universidad Nacional de Cordoba, Cordoba, Argentina. Dr. Sanchez became a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons in 2017.  In 2018, his work was named an Exceptional Abstract, American Thoracic Society Innovations in Fellowship Education. In both 2019 and 2020, he was named the Thoracic Surgery Faculty of the Year, UPMC Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Dr. Sanchez’s current research interests include basic science and clinical interests that are focused on novel therapies using extracorporeal perfusion system to minimize surgical complications related to lung transplantation including ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury, primary graft dysfunction (PGD), airway ischemia, and chronic allograft dysfunction (CLAD). He is the principal investigator of the project entitled, “Exosomes as a novel surrogate prognostic tool for host immune-mediated clinical responses driving the development of CLAD” (U01 consortium with University of Washington).
