    Mary Amanda Dew, PhD

    Dr. Mary Amanda Dew is a Professor of Psychiatry, Psychology, Epidemiology, Nursing, and Biostatistics at the University of Pittsburgh and also a Professor at the Clinical and Translational Science Institute.  She is the Director of the Clinical Epidemiology Program, Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, and the Director of the Quality of Life Research, Artificial Heart Program, Adult Cardiothoracic Transplantation, at UPMC. Dr. Dew earned a BA and MA in Psychology from The Johns Hopkins University in 1979, a MA in Social Psychology from Harvard University in 1983, and her PhD in Psychology/Quantitative Methods from Harvard University in 1984.  Dr. Dew completed her post-doctoral training in Psychiatric Epidemiology at the University of Pittsburgh Schools of Medicine and Public Health in 1987. Dr. Dew is a member of several professional and scientific societies, including but not limited to, the American Psychological Association (Fellow 2006), the Association for Psychological Science (Fellow 2004), the American Psychopathological Association (Fellow 1997), the Academy of Consultation Liaison Psychiatry (Fellow 2013), the Society for Behavioral Medicine, the American Society of Transplantation, and the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation. She served on the Board of Directors of the U.S. Organ Transplantation and Procurement Network/United Network for Organ Sharing (OPTN/UNOS) from 2014 to 2016, and she is the past Chair and current member of the OPTN/UNOS Living Donor Committee.  She has authored over 500 publications as well as many book chapters and reports. She makes frequent presentations at conferences and seminars. Dr. Dew's research focuses on mental health, medical adherence, and quality of life outcomes in organ transplant recipients and their family caregivers, as well as similar issues in individuals who receive mechanical circulatory support as either a bridge to transplant or as destination therapy.  She also studies strategies to promote safety and prevent poor psychosocial outcomes in living organ donors.
