    Howard D. Edington, MD

    Dr. Howard Edington is the System Chairman, Department of Surgery, and the Chief of Surgical Oncology at West Penn Allegheny Health System, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is also a Professor of Surgery at Temple University School of Medicine and Drexel University School of Medicine, both located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. At Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Dr. Edington serves as an adjunct Professor of Biomedical Engineering. Dr. Edington completed his undergraduate studies at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York. He received his MD from Temple University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and completed his post-graduate training in the hospitals of UPMC and a 2-year Fellowship in Surgical Oncology from the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Edington also received an MBA from University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Business. Dr. Edington is certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners, the American Board of Surgery (including Qualification in Surgery of the Hand), and the American Board of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is a member of numerous professional organizations and societies, including Alpha Omega Alpha, the Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, The Greater Pittsburgh Plastic Surgery Society, the Plastic Surgery Research Council, The Wound Healing Society, The Society of Surgical Oncology, The Society for Biological Therapy, and the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons. Dr. Edington’s research interests include anti-tumor immunity, tissue engineering and gene therapy approach to wound healing, effects of cleft lip and palate repair on craniofacial growth and development, and skin cancer.
